What are some awesome pieces that you think aren't played nearly enough? I'm looking for something to play this semester a bit outside of the typical flute repertoire. I played the Liebermann Concerto last semester, so stuff in that range of difficulty would probably be the best. Thanks in advance!

(I've been listening to the Khachaturian Concerto, trying to decide whether or not I'm up to learning it... does anyone know if it's as ridiculously hard to learn as it sounds like it is?)

The more I listen to it, the more I want to play it! I think I may only do one movement, though. Which one was your favorite?

Oh, that's like making me pick between children. However, I'd recommend picking betwene the first two. :(

The 2nd mvt is the most technically feasable, but make sure you're comfortable with the extremes in range and some funky rhythmical stuff.

The 1st movement is easier than the last, and like oopsiedaisy says, the 3rd has nearly no places to breathe (and has to be technically SOLID). There's a bit more fudge room with the first movement for technical stuff.

I recommend the 1st movement (between the first two) for its sheer badassery.

Go for it!

AND the cadenza's heart-wrenchingly *gorgeous*.
